DEALING WITH STRESS
Older people and people of any age who have serious underlying health conditions are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. People who may have issues getting assistance if they become ill, like those experiencing homelessness or people with disabilities are also at increased risk from COVID- 19.
These conditions and situations may result in increased stress during this pandemic. Fear and anxiety can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions.
Things you can do to support yourself:
- Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news .
- Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate
- Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.
- Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.
- Call your healthcare provider if stress gets in the way of your daily activities for several days in a row.
- If you, or someone you care about, are feeling overwhelmed with emotions like sadness, depression, or anxiety, or feel like you want to harm yourself or others call

What you can do
Do:
- Stay home
- Avoid people outside your household
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
- Maintain a safe social distance of 6 feet whenever outside of the house
Don’t:
- Leave the house except for essential activities
- Shake hands
- Touch your face
- Go to doctor unless you call first
- Stockpile masks or gloves

New! Hotels for Health Care Workers
Starting April 10, frontline health care workers who are exposed to or test positive for COVID-19 can find hotel rooms through the CalTravelStore. Call 1-877-454-8785 to validate your eligibility and make your reservation. If hotels want to participate, they can email covid19lodging@dgs.ca.gov.
Stay home except for essential needs
Everyone in California is required to stay home except to get food, care for a relative or friend, get necessary health care, or go to an essential job. If you go out, stay at least 6 feet away from other people. This order began Thursday, March 19, 2020 and is in place until further notice.
